Episode 1: Spoken word poet MONICA DAYE

Originally from Durham, North Carolina, Monica Daye is a spoken word artist and activist who captivates audiences with her biting poetry and intimate stories of domestic violence and sexual assault. In this inaugural episode, Daye shares her inspiration behind three of her poems put to music: Story, 3 Years, and Sound Da Siren, and opens up about her own sexual assault experience as a youth, her abusive relationship and the violence still happening in her hometown of Durham, NC.  Committed to the healing of women and her community, Daye also talks about her non-profit, STAND UP- SPEAK OUT (SUSO), a Durham-based community outreach program for young girls and women. Daye concludes this episode with an inspirational message for 2022. Learn more about Monica Daye and SUSO at susonc.org
